Sports Injuries Overview
Sports injuries can be catagoried into acute, subacute and chronic. Acute injuries may require special studies such as X-rays or MRIs to evaluate the severity of the damage. Many sports injuries are progressive, starting with minor pain and eventually leading to increased pain and complete immobility. Common sports injuries involve the shoulders, knees and ankles. Many of these injuries start with minor discomfort while engaging in activity, however, continued use of the extremity may lead to a more severe injury and the potential need for surgical intervention in some cases.
It is important to get appropriate treatment as soon as possible. Doing so may allow continued sport activity and limit the risk of progressing the injury to complete failure of the tissue. Dr. John Pellegrini, D.C. can assess your injury and develop a customized treatment plan using a sports rehabilitative approach. -
